KOHIMA — As per the National Prisons Information Portal (NPIP), Nagaland has a total of 586 inmates as of October 10, 2025—of which 559 are male and 27 are female.

 

The data shows that there are 184 inmates in Central Jail Dimapur, 20 in District Jail Longleng, 75 in District Jail Kohima, 60 in District Jail Mokokchung, 32 in District Jail Tuensang, 84 in District Jail Dimapur, 6 in District Jail Kiphire, 49 in District Jail Mon, 26 in District Jail Peren, 24 in District Jail Phek, none in Wokha District Jail, and 26 in Zunheboto District Jail.

 

The record also shows that of the total inmates, 31 are below 20 years of age, 240 are between 20 and 30 years, 214 are between 30 and 40 years, and the rest are above 40 years.

 

The portal further indicates that there is no record of escaped prisoners in the state.

 

Nationwide, the top seven states with the highest current prison populations are Uttar Pradesh (92,997), Bihar (52,735), Madhya Pradesh (43,300), Maharashtra (40,649), Punjab (35,774), Haryana (27,649), and West Bengal (24,976).
