KOHIMA — Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton on Thursday announced in the assembly that the state government has received notification from the Government of India for the conduct of Census 2027.
The deputy CM was replying to a starred question by NPF MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu.
On preparations for the 2027 census, Patton stated that the state government has republished the notification and designated the Home Department as the nodal department. The Home Commissioner has been appointed as the nodal officer to oversee and coordinate census activities.
He also stated that notification has been issued for freezing of all administrative boundaries from January 1, 2026, till March 31, 2027, to facilitate the state to undertake census operation 2027.

Nagaland sets to conduct population census in 2027
A state level coordination committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to supervise and monitor for smooth and successful completion, and that the appointment of census officers and functionaries are to be taken up between December 2025 and February 2026.
Road construction from Doyang to Izheto
In another starred question by Nienu on the Doyang to Izheto road construction, Deputy CM TR Zeliang replied that the total assessment for damages to structures, property, and cultivated areas amounts to INR 29,55,26,453.

Survival of government schools
Relying to a starred question by MLA Nuklutoshi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio mentioned that several strategies and plans have been taken up for survival of government schools, especially high schools and higher secondary schools with low enrolment and poor performance.
Some of the strategies, Rio mentioned, include strengthening of basic facilities to improve overall learning environment and to make it conducive to learning and attract enrolment, citing that the department has leveraged various schemes such as CSS (Samagra Shiksha), NECTAR, NEC, NESIDS and other available provisions.
He also mentioned capacity building and professional development of teachers to strengthen teaching-learning process and improve learning outcome of students.
Other strategies include making maths, science teachers, post graduate teachers available, deployment of school heads or teachers exercise, teacher staffing pattern, school leadership development programme and community engagement.
