- DIMAPUR — The
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has questioned the Indian railways
for the delay in completion of Dimapur-Kohima railway project and also
highlighted various challenges plaguing the Dimapur railway station.
- Participating at the meeting of Divisional Railway Users
Consultative Committee (DRUCC), Lumding division, on March 21, NPCC secretary
and member of DRUCC, Akuonuo Miachieo, has raised pertinent issues and sought
immediate intervention from the higher authority.
- On land encroachment, she highlighted that a large portion
of railway land has been encroached upon by private settlers, which led to
legal disputes and compensation demands, delaying the expansion of Dimapur
railway station. She has sought collaborative dialogue between the railway
board and state government to resolve the conflicts and explore alternative
solutions to avoid prolonged legal battles.
- On limited halt time at Dimapur station, she mentioned that
trains at Dimapur station currently halt for only 2 to 5 minutes, causing
inconvenience to passengers. She has sought a minimum halt time of 15-20
minutes along with the expansion of parking and platform facilities.
- On the construction work, especially at Tunnel No. 6 and 7
near Tsiepama village, which has been frequently disrupted due to security
challenges, she has sought enhancement of security measures at critical
construction sites to protect workers and ensure smooth project implementation.
- Noting that delays in land acquisition and rising compensation
costs have slowed down the construction of tunnels, road over bridges (ROB) and
road under bridges (RUB), she has sought fast-tracking land acquisition and
ensuring timely release of funds to avoid further delays and cost escalations.
- With rising passenger demand at Dimapur station, she further
stated that there was an urgent need to increase ticket allotment and seating
capacity. She has sought introduction of a more efficient ticketing system to
reduce last-minute congestion and improve passenger convenience.
