Committee members protesting in Kohima.
- DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress
Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday staged protests in Kohima and Dimapur, joining a
nationwide movement called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against
the alleged misuse of central agencies by the BJP-led central government.
- A press release from the party informed that the Kohima
protest was held at Congress Bhavan, while the Dimapur protest was organised by
the District Congress Committee (DCC) Dimapur outside the office of the
additional commissioner of Income Tax.
- Addressing protestors in Kohima, S Supongmeren Jamir, Member
of Parliament and NPCC President, asserted that Congress leaders like Sonia
Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal are advocating for the rights of minorities.
- He accused the BJP government of attempting to distract from
these critical issues to hinder the Congress party's work for the people but
reaffirmed the party's unwavering commitment.
- Khriedi Theunuo, Working President of NPCC, echoed these
sentiments, stating that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was attempting to
silence National Herald, a newspaper that amplifies the voices of the people.
- In Dimapur, C Apok Jamir, Working President of the NPCC,
addressed protestors, declaring the demonstration “not just a protest but a
mass movement to protect democracy and uphold the Constitution of India.”
- He accused the RSS and BJP government of systematically
eroding the principles enshrined in the Constitution. The NPCC leader also
criticised the alleged misuse of the ED as a political tool to target Congress
leaders without substantial evidence.
- He claimed that the Congress party is being selectively
targeted because of its unwavering support for the poor, minorities, and
marginalised communities. The protests concluded peacefully, with participants
vowing to continue the fight for justice, democracy, and the people of India.
