
Dimapur, Nov. 18 (EMN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Home department, Y Patton, has released a book titled “Economics of rubber plantation in Nagaland” written by Dr. N Rentnungo Patton.
Speaking at the book launch event at Mt. Tiyi College Boys Hostel on November 18, Patton congratulated the author for successfully publishing the book. He expressed optimism that the publication of the book would benefit the people.
Patton stated that rubber plantation in Nagaland has occupied an integral part of economic uplift of the Naga people. He added that rubber cultivation is also another alternative means of farming which has the potential to boost the economy and create employment opportunity for the youths as well as create opportunities to sustain ones livelihood.
Stating that the government is trying all possible means in helping the rubber growers by way of providing various machineries to help in their endeavour, Patton urged the rubber growers to utilise various assistance provided by the government for their economic uplift.
Delivering a brief summary of the book, the author, Dr. N Renthungo Patton, stated that the book is an extract from his doctoral thesis titled “Economics of rubber plantation in Nagaland: a case study of Wokha and Mokokchung district.” He added that book could be completed under the guidance and supervision of Prof. T Zurenthung Ezung.
The author added that the potentiality of rubber farming, being at its nascent stage, was still not fully realized. He, therefore, recommended some appropriate policies measures to be adopted for the benefit of the rubber growers. He has suggested providing extensive training camp for farmers, awareness programme.
