Kohima, Aug. 1 (EMN): The parents of students at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Phek on Monday extended solidarity to the ultimatum served by the Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) on July 27 to the principal director, Department of School Education, Kohima.
A press release issued by Dani Movi and Shesakho Hoshi, on behalf of the parents, pointed out that 11 high school section teachers had been either transferred/retired/deployed without a reliever and eight higher secondary section teachers had either been expired/promoted/transferred without any reliever.
It also asked how the Tenyidie students of the higher secondary section would appear their examinations without a Tenyidie teacher in the school.
“We are also shocked to learn that the students are made to make contributions during their admission to incur two private teachers so as to meet the shortage of teachers in order to keep the school running. It is no less surprising that the newly appointed principal never joined the school after his posting at GHSS, Phek. The pathetic condition of the GHSS, Phek, without the presence of these huge numbers of teachers and negligence by the concerned authorities at the same time is astoundingly surprising as to how the careers and future of our children are being pushed to an extreme corner,” the release stated.
The representatives maintained that they have ‘hoped, waited for a better change for enough time, out of which things have only gone from bad to worst’. It appealed to the concerned authorities that the demands made by the PTYS in their ultimatum be redressed at the earliest for the interest of the Phek town and nearby villages in particular and the people of Chakhesang community in general.
