Nagaland Optometric Association conducts eye screening camp in schools
Commemorating World Optometry Day, the Nagaland Optometric Association (NOA) organising eye screening camp in schools on the theme “Eyes to the future: Optometry improving global wellness” as announced by the World Council of Optometry.

World Optometry Day, the Nagaland Optometric Association (NOA) organising eye
screening camp in schools on the theme “Eyes to the future: Optometry improving
global wellness” as announced by the World Council of Optometry.
- In Kohima, the eye screening camp was conducted at
Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, on March 18, wherein a
total of 184 students were screened of which 71 students were diagnosed with
refractive errors.
- In Chümoukedima, it was conducted at Government Middle
School, Seithekema Basa, on March 21, wherein 200 students were screened and 3
refractive errors were diagnosed.
- An update from the association stated that NOA along with
the support of the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual
Impairment (NPCBVI), Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, have made
arrangements for providing spectacles to the students.
- It mentioned that World Optometry Day is observed annually
on March 23 in recognition of the invaluable contributions of optometrists to
eye health. It stated that optometry is far more than just vision correction;
it is a key pillar in global healthcare which contributes to overall wellness,
disease prevention and the diagnosis of health conditions that affect more than
just the eyes. When incorporated into health systems, optometry can act as an
entry point for detecting a range of health issues, it stated.
- It further stated that the annual observance is a global
initiative to create awareness about the importance of eye and vision care,
highlighting the role of optometrist in safeguarding vision and promoting eye
health.
