Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): The special judge of FTSC, Dimapur, Khrulto Koso, on April 29 convicted and sentenced one person to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years with a fine of INR 10,000 for penetrative sexual assault on a 12 years old minor girl on June 17, 2020.
An update from the special public prosecutor, Imlimong, stated the accused person namely Vinato Chopi was convicted in connection with WN PS C/NO 019/20 for an offence punishable u/s 4(2) of POCSO Act 2012. It added that in default of payment of fine, the accused would further undergo rigorous imprisonment of six months.
It stated that the case was successfully investigated by UBSI Tajungsangla of Women Cell, Dimapur, adding the prosecution examined six witnesses to prove the case.
The judge, while pronouncing the judgment and sentence, stated that the prosecution had successfully proved its case beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt. The court observed that the accused made atrocities to an innocent minor girl very cruelly and that it was the duty of the court to consider and credit the trauma faced by the victim’s family and that the accused does not deserve any leniency.
The court further observed that the accused is a prudent man, well acquainted with the pros and cons of his misdeeds and has record of pending cases against him. It, therefore, stated that he was not entitled to get the benevolent provisions of the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958.
