A man was hacked to death in Shamator, prompting strong condemnation from local organisations and calls for swift justice.

DIMAPUR — In a tragic incident, one person identified as Yanrukiu Yimkhiung (37) of Longtsonger village under Pungro sub-division in Kiphire district was killed following an altercation in Shamator town on December 5.
A source informed Eastern Mirror that a quarrel broke out among friends, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, when one of them suddenly took out a machete and struck the deceased on the neck from behind.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the house of the deceased’s son, located between high school and PWD junction in Shamator town.
It was learned that the assault took place around 2.30 pm, and the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital at around 3.20 pm.
It was further learned that no arrest had been made till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation (YYO) and Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF) have condemned the “tragic and senseless” murder of Yanrukiu Yimkhiung, stating that the brutal act has shocked and saddened the entire community.
The YYO has demanded capital punishment for the perpetrator and vowed zero tolerance towards violence that disrupts peace and tranquility in society.

It also expressed solidarity with the victim's family and pledged full support in seeking swift justice through legal means.
In a separate statement, the STPF said that such acts of violence are intolerable and have no place in a civilised society. The forum conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for comfort and strength during their time of grief.
Both organisations have urged the police and judicial authorities to leave no stone unturned in pursuing justice and ensuring that the accused is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
They also called for an immediate investigation and timely justice for the victim’s family.
