Kohima, Sep. 15 (EMN): The personnel of West Police Station, Dimapur intercepted and seized nine dressed pigs weighing around 670 kg at Ghorapatti area on Tuesday. The carcasses were reportedly imported from Assam, by crossing a river.
One person identified as Ansul Singh (37) was arrested in this connection.
According to Dimapur police, the meat samples have been taken by the Veterinary department to be tested for swine fever and a case has been registered at West Police Station Dimapur.
The deputy director of District Veterinary Hospital Dimapur, Dr. KN Zubemo Humtsoe, informed that the samples would be sent to the ELISA lab in Kohima for classical swine fever test, and to the NE Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Guwahati for African Swine Fever test.
The carcasses were later disposed off at the municipal garbage dumping site.
