Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN): Nagaland will witness its first ever official Paralympic Games on August 23 at Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School, Kuda village, Dimapur, informed the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) in an update.
The one-day Paralympic Games will consist of para-bocce, para-judo and para-shotput and a total of 65 para-athletes, organisers and officials will be part of the games.
NOA stated it is overwhelmed with the tremendous response received from all the districts with a total of 1894 participants (1615 athletes and 279 team managers and coaches) from 16 districts taking part in the Games.
The Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022 kicked off with the football event on August 17 at IG Stadium, Kohima, and a total of 344 football participants from 15 districts are at present in the Games Village Meriema, it stated.
There are three venues for the other sports starting from August 22 including Longleng (badminton), Dimapur (lawn tennis and shooting sports) and Kohima (archery, athletics, boxing, basketball, football, table tennis, taekwondo and wushu).
“A total of 48 officials will join the contingents of each district as chef de mission, deputy chef de mission and district team manager and 200 qualified technical officials along with 100 volunteers will be involved in the Games,” NOA stated.
In total the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games will involve a total of more than 2800 athletes, officials, organisers, performers and crew, it informed.
There will be seven trophies for the Games namely, team championship winners, team championships runner-up, team championships 2nd runner-up, spirit of Olympics award, Olympic fair play trophy, outstanding sportsman and outstanding sportswoman.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2022 will be held Capital Cultural Hall at 2pm.
