DIMAPUR — Principal Secretary of Forest Environment & Climate Change, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, Y Kikheto Sema paid a courtesy call to Atul Bora, Assam Minister for Agriculture and Border Affairs, at his official residence in Guwahati on December 31, 2025.
During the meeting, the minister reaffirmed his firm commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Sūmi (Sema) Naga people residing in Upper Assam, particularly the six villages under Tinsukia district, an update stated.
Bora acknowledged the historical presence of the Sūmi Nagas in the region, noting that their settlement predates India’s Independence, with records indicating the establishment of a Sūmi Naga village as early as 1904.
He emphasised that such historical continuity must be respected while addressing present-day administrative and developmental concerns.
Discussions also focused on further strengthening the long-standing relationship between the states of Assam and Nagaland, especially in the sensitive border areas.
