Dimapur, Mar. 3 (EMN): The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD) of the department of Health and Family Welfare observed World Hearing Day at the government middle school of Keyake, in Kohima district, on Mar. 1.
During the programme, Dr. Zhimatho Nyusou, ENT specialist at the Naga Hospital in Kohima town, spoke about the significance and importance of ear care. He reminded that hearing loss can be prevented through preventive measures and routine check-ups.
To promote ear and hearing care, a total of 83 school children were screened for early identification of ear related problems where free medicines were distributed to those beneficiaries needing medication who were diagnosed with ear infection, discharge, wax and other ear related problems.
Information materials on ear care were also distributed during the awareness programme. Programme Officer, Dr. Obangjungla, staff of directorate and NHAK also attended the programme.
