Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): Nagaland observed the World Menstruation Hygiene Day (MHD) on May 28 on the theme "Action and investment in menstrual hygiene and health."
“Menstrual hygiene for millions of women and girls has been getting worse since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns in India. Due to poverty and lack of limited resources, the poorest sections of the women and girls of the society are unable to manage their menstruation and health, which is a fundamental human right. This also increases discrimination, stigmas, and exclusions against women and girls,” Dr. Rhondemo A Kikon, consultant of Health and Family Welfare stated.
To address those challenges and celebrate MHD 2021, Loreni Sophia from the Menstrual Initiative Nagaland (MIN) interacted virtually and through social media to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene management and health among young girls and women across Nagaland. It added that MIN also distributed around 1280 packets of free sanitary pads on the special day celebrating womanhood. Report further stated that this year MIN's focus was to honour and salute female frontline health workers, police personals, female vegetable vendors, and others who, despite their long working hours during their periods, dedicated themselves to serve their communities and provide for their families.
