Phek, Niuland and Meluri observe International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and launch 16 Days of Activism.

DIMAPUR — The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the launch of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence were observed across Nagaland on November 25.
Phek: The district administration of Phek, along with SAKALP-District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) in collaboration with Sakhi One Stop Centre, Phek, observed the day at Town Council Hall, Phek.
In his keynote address, Rhosietho Nguori, deputy commissioner (DC) of Phek, who is also the chairperson of the District Level Community, Mission Shakti, discouraged the tendency of looking down on women in totality and also opposed digital violence that exists in the present society, according to a DIPR report.
According to the DC, digital violence is becoming more challenging than physical violence, for which he advised parents to monitor the internet content watched by children. He said that every responsible citizen should continue to maintain a mindset of equality amongst men and women throughout one's life and urged the stakeholders to give responsible effort during the 16 Days of Activism programme for the elimination of gender-based violence against women.

Guest Speaker Dr. Pritpal Kaur, superintendent of police, Phek, spoke about God's creation of men and women with biological differences; however, she justified gender equality in terms of jobs and opportunities.
Dr. Kaur then informed that cybercrimes against women has gone beyond imagination, with more than 2.5 lakh cases registered in the NCR Portal related to digital violence against women alone. She, therefore, urged men to change their mindset and shared the cybercrime helpline No. 1930 for reports.
Altogether 60 participants from line departments, civil societies, churches, and NGOs attended the programme. It concluded with a signature campaign on the theme 'He for she'.
Niuland: DHEW, under the aegis of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), organised a programme at Nikhekhu village, Niuland, to commemorate the day.
According to an update, a gathering of 50 youth participants attended the programme. Kelengunuo Solo, EAC, attended the occasion as the keynote speaker, shedding light on the theme and emphasising the need for collective action to address this pressing issue.
Meluri: The district administration and Sakhi-One Stop Centre under Mission Shakti, Meluri, organised a programme on the theme "Unite to end digital violence against all women" at the DC conference hall, Meluri.
SDO Meluri, Sakuchingmak, in his keynote address stressed the important role and function of the Mission Shakti One Stop Centre. He also said that the church is the most important platform to protect and prevent women from violence in Naga society.
The guest speaker was Chiekerho Nyusou, a case worker (legal). She spoke about domestic violence against women, digital abuses, prevention of sexual harassment at workplaces, physical abuse, and legal acts.
The programme was attended by heads of departments under Meluri district, civil society organisations, village council members of Meluri town, Khumiasü and Riehuope, student leaders and church leaders.
