NTHCC urges Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities to exercise restraint, resolve differences through dialogue and restore peace.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee (NTHCC) has appealed to the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue amid the recent outbreak of violence in Shamator and Kiphire districts.
In a press release, the NTHCC expressed deep concern over the situation and urged both communities to refrain from any action that could aggravate tensions and lead to further loss of lives or destruction of property.
The committee called on tribal leaders, village authorities and civil society organisations of both communities to prevail upon their respective people to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
Emphasising that mutual understanding, constructive engagement and dialogue are the way forward, the NTHCC urged both communities to resolve their grievances amicably, with sincerity and a spirit of accommodation.

It stated that no dispute should be allowed to result in further loss of precious lives, damage to property or lasting bitterness between the communities.
The NTHCC also called upon the Nagaland government to intervene without delay, ensure the safety and security of residents in the affected areas, and take all necessary measures to restore normalcy.
Further, the committee urged the state government to ensure the effective implementation of existing modalities and establish clear and practical mechanisms, in consultation with the concerned tribal bodies and village authorities, to address disputes and prevent misunderstandings in villages inhabited by both communities.
It stressed that timely intervention, mutual consultation and a clear mechanism for resolving differences were essential to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
At the critical juncture, the NTHCC appealed to both communities to demonstrate wisdom, maturity and responsible leadership, stressing that the preservation of peace and protection of innocent lives must take precedence over all differences.
The committee expressed hope that sincere dialogue and timely government intervention would help bring the situation under control and restore mutual confidence, reiterating that all differences must be resolved through peaceful means and mutual understanding.
