Kohima, Jan 31 (EMN): The Working Committee of Naga People's Front (NPF) on Monday resolved to extend invitation to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) to “come together in the larger interest of our people”.
The resolution was taken during its meeting on Monday at its Central Office in Kohima.
The NPF joined the BJP-NDPP led People's Democratic Alliance government last year to form an all-party government under the new nomenclature United Democratic Alliance, after sitting in the opposition for more than three years.
“The Working Committee is of the considered opinion that at this crucial juncture, there is a necessity for regional political parties to come together in order to effectively address the issues confronting our people. Therefore, the Working Committee resolved to extend invitation to Mr. Neiphiu Rio Hon'ble Chief Minister, Nagaland along with his Hon'ble MLAs to come together in the larger interest of our people,” read the resolution.
NPF Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon told journalists after the working committee’s meeting that the invitation was extended as it’s not only the wish of the party but the entire Naga people that the regional parties come together.
“Let us find out the best possible option for how we will come together. The dynamics of politics is changing; everyone has to adapt with the changing time. So, we have to adapt with the changing times and we have a strong opinion that the long-felt desire of our people should be respected,” said Kikon.
He also stated that the party is seriously looking into the option and that it is duty-bound to express its willingness for the two parties to come together considering the wish of the people.
