Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): The Returning Officer of biennial election to the council of states, Khruohituonuo Rio has informed that no nominations have been received to fill the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland till 3 pm on Monday.
The last date of nominations is March 21, scrutiny on March 22, and last date for withdrawal of candidatures on March 24 (before 3 pm).
Khruohituonuo, who is also the Additional Secretary of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), issued a notification on Monday stating that the polling to fill the seat in Rajya Sabha, which will be left vacant after the incumbent MP KG Kenye retires on April 2, will take place in the Conference Hall, Annex Room of the Assembly Secretariat.
The RO went on to inform that nomination papers can be delivered by a candidate or proposer to the RO or the Assistant Returning Officer at Room No. 65, NLA Secretariat, between 11am and 3 pm on all working days by March 21.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced last week that elections to fill 13 Rajya Sabha (RS) seats across six states, including Nagaland would be held on March 31 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes to be done on the same day at 5 pm.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is yet to announce the candidate. However, sources from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had earlier told this newspaper that the candidate would be from the party.
