Dimapur, Aug. 16 (EMN): Nkio-Lui Council and the Nkio Students’ Union (NSU) have resolved to protect its traditional land boundaries from any encroachers and at the same time maintain mutual respect and peaceful coexistence with the neighboring villages.
The resolution to this effect was made during an emergency meeting of Nkio-Lui Council, the apex body of 14 villages within Nkio territorial jurisdiction, and Nkio Students’ Union along with the public held on August 2 in Old Nkio Village Council Hall.
The house reaffirmed to strictly abide and uphold the July 29, 2012, general resolutions to “Strictly prohibits unauthorised selling of land by an individual(s) or group(s) within Nkio jurisdiction and to initiate punitive action against the defaulter.” The resolution stated that any individual(s) or group(s) in the past or in the days to come indulging themselves in such illegal selling of land without the knowledge or consent of Nkio Pumling Council (now Nkio-Lui Council) would remain unacceptable and void.
The Nkio-Lui Council has directed individuals and groups, who purchased any plot/ area of land within Nkio territorial jurisdiction, to submit any available documents or sale deeds made between sellers and buyers to its secretary, Kunamyi Neimi, on or before September 30 so as to bring the issue to an amicable solution. It cautioned that failing to comply with the council’s notice before the stipulated timeframe, any claims regarding selling or purchasing of land under Nkio jurisdiction would be declared null and void.
The council further resolved to completely prohibit hunting and poaching within Nkio jurisdiction during the breeding season from March to November every year starting from 2023. It has prohibited outsiders from such activities either during or off-season adding that perpetrators would be duly punished.
This was stated in a joint statement issued by Nkio-Lui Council chairman, Akubo, and general secretary, Kunamyi Neimi, and NSU president, Dr. Pauzieleubo.
