Special programme for senior citizens’ held in Tuensang
DIMAPUR — A special programme for Senior Citizens was held at Town Hall, Tuensang, on September 25, organised by Shekinah Christian Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare. The programme aimed to honour senior citizens and promote dignity, care, inclusion and awareness of their welfare and well-being, a DIPR report stated. It was attended by senior citizens, government officials, community leaders and well-wishers. The programme featured special songs, a poem recital, drama, an awareness session on welfare schemes for senior citizens, a session on healthy lifestyle habits and an interactive open forum. Dr Zujanbeni N Ngullie, EAC Tuensang, and Impongsotet Chang, president of the Senior Citizens’ Forum Tuensang, encouraged participants and stressed the importance of respecting and supporting the elderly. District Welfare Officer T LonglangLakpan highlighted various welfare schemes available for senior citizens. A walkathon from the Clock Tower to Town Hall was also organised.
1st NAP officers and staff briefed on health schemes
A one-day awareness programme on Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) was organised by the 1st NAP Battalion, Chümoukedima, on September 24 at Rhododendron Hall, NPOCM, Chümoukedima. According to a DIPR report, officials from the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS) briefed the officers and staff on the policy framework, eligibility, documentation, benefits, empanelled hospitals and financing mechanisms of AB PM-JAY and CMHIS. The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session, enabling participants to clarify various provisions and benefits under the two schemes.
Tribal hohos seek priority action on Foothills Road
The Dimapur-based Nagaland Tribal Hohos (NTH) held a consultative meeting with the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) at Kher Mahal, Dimapur, on September 26 to deliberate on the resumption of the ongoing second-phase, two-lane Foothills Road construction across the State. Following discussions, the meeting adopted two resolutions, urging the state government to immediately issue work orders for all remaining Foothills Road portions falling under the respective EE divisions, citing the approaching working season, an update stated. The meeting called for the matter to be taken up on priority. The tribal Hohos also reaffirmed their support for and confidence in the NFHRCC and its initiatives until the Foothills Road project is successfully completed. The meeting further resolved to appropriately support the state government’s maga project initiative if it is upgraded to National Highway status under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), under the aegis of the Trans-Nagaland Highways (Foothills Road).
Wangyuh Konyak resigns from NPF
Former Lok Sabha MP and former Nagaland minister W Wangyuh Konyak has resigned from the Naga People’s Front (NPF). In a resignation letter dated September 25 and addressed to NPF president Neiphiu Rio, Konyak stated that he was resigning from the primary and active membership of the party as well as from the post of core committee member. He cited an “uncompromisable situation” that had arisen in the 45-Tehok Assembly Constituency as the reason for his resignation.
MHN condemns civilian killings
The Mao Hoho Nagaland (MHN) has condemned the killing of two civilians in Senapati district on September 26 and the subsequent death of another civilian from injuries sustained in the incident. In a condemnation note, the organisation identified the deceased as Rocky of Chowainamei Khullen village and Kumar of Laii Shirafii village, who were killed on September 26. It also identified Ashiho Sani of Shajouba village, who succumbed to his injuries on September 27. The hoho conveyed solidarity and condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of Adani Manio of Makhel village, who was injured in the incident. Terming the killing of civilians “totally unacceptable and condemnable,” the organisation said it would not remain silent over the incident. It appealed to law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest those responsible at the earliest.
GPRN/NSCN (U) mourns Hevukhu Aye
The GPRN/NSCN (Unification) has expressed sorrow over the demise of Hevukhu Aye, son of late Shozukhu Aye and a native of Amboto Old village, who passed away on September 26. In a condolence message, the organisation described Aye as a veteran member who had dedicated many years to the Naga national cause. It stated that he began his service in the Lotha Region and subsequently shouldered various responsibilities within the organisation with perseverance, loyalty and a strong sense of duty. The organisation said his years of service, experience and contributions to its functioning would be remembered with honour and respect by fellow members and comrades. Describing his passing as a loss to his family, friends, relatives and the organisation, the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
