Longleng officials inspect landslide-affected areas
DIMAPUR — The district administration of Longleng, led by Deputy Commissioner W Manpai Phom, along with the superintendent of police, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), PWD (R&B), and dobashis, on Tuesday inspected areas affected by landslides. According to a DIPR report, due to incessant rain on July 19, the district has been cut off from all sides, including the Longleng- Changtongya, Longleng- Tuensang, Longleng- Aboi, Tamlu- Merangkong, and Tamlu- Wakching roads. As per the damage report, the district witnessed landslides, mudslides, and flash floods, causing damage to property, plantations, farms, and road infrastructure. However, no loss of life was reported. The district administration, DDMA, and PWD (R&B), Longleng, are in the process of clearing the roads.
KMC orders shop facelift
The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has directed all shopkeepers and business establishments within its jurisdiction to whitewash or paint the front side of their buildings and shops facing the road on or before August 10 in view of the forthcoming celebration of the 80th Independence Day. According to a circular issued in pursuance of the Home Department meeting minutes dated July 8, the directive applies to all shopkeepers and business establishments within the Kohima Municipal Council area. The circular was issued by the chief executive officer, Kohima Municipal Council.
NPF minority wing meeting
The NPF Central Minority Wing will organise its annual minority wing yearly meeting-cum-orientation programme on July 22 at 2 pm at the conference hall of the NPF Dimapur division office. According to a press release, the programme aims to strengthen coordination and organisational functioning among the minority wing units under the Dimapur and Chümoukedima divisions. The meeting will be attended by presidents, secretaries and representatives of the minority wing from Assembly constituencies including 1 Dimapur-I, 2 Dimapur-II, 3 Dimapur-III, 1 Ghaspani-I and 2 Ghaspani-II. Office bearers of the Minority Wing Dimapur division, Minority Wing Chümoukedima division and the Central Minority Wing will also participate. The president of the NPF Dimapur division, central in-charge and co-in-charge of the minority wing have also been invited to attend the programme.
NNC/FGN monthly meeting
The monthly meeting of the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) will be held at Transit Peace Camp (TPC), Kohima, on July 27 at 10 am. According to a press release, the NNC has requested all the central authorities, regional authorities, leaders of the Naga Women Federation (NWF), leaders of the Naga Youth Federation (NYF), and eligible Naga Army officers of the NNC/FGN to attend the meeting.
Body of unidentified man recovered in Medziphema
An unidentified man, suspected to be a non-Naga aged around 45 to 50 years, was found dead in an abandoned house at Ward-1, Medziphema, on July 20. According to Dimapur Police, verbal information was received from a source at around 10.30 pm about the body. Personnel from Medziphema Police Station rushed to the spot for verification. An inquest was conducted, and the suspected cause of death was found to be illness and starvation. After completion of all legal formalities, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination and identification. Police have requested the claimant, relatives, or friends of the deceased to contact the officer-in-charge, Medziphema Police Station, at 7085055023.
