Two arrested with drugs
DIMAPUR — Kohima Police personnel manning the Khuzama inter-state check gate during routine checking intercepted one Maruti Gypsy bearing registration number NL-06-2726 and recovered 55 soap cases of heroin weighing approximately 635 gram on July 7. A police report issued by PRO of Kohima Police stated that the value of the seized contraband in the national market was estimated to be around INR 66.67 lakh. In this connection, two persons identified as Zingshowung Muilung (43) and Varengam Awungshi (36), both resident of Ukhrul in Manipur, were arrested and the vehicle along with the contraband were seized. It added that a case under NDPS Act has been registered at Khuzama Police Station for further investigation.

One house was burnt down at Bamunpukhuri ‘A’ in Dimapur on Saturday evening, which was suspected to be caused by electric short circuit. A source from the Fire and Emergency Services informed that the personnel could bring the fire under control after about 30 minutes. He also informed that two families reside in the house made of bamboo. He updated that there was no reports of casualty. The amount of property lost in the incident could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report. (Staff Reporter)
MHSU condoles demise of former MLA
Mopong Hongkong Students’ Union (MHSU) has condoled the demise of former MLA of 48 Moka Assembly COnstituency, Manwai Konyak, who passed away on July 8. He was elected as representative to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1977 from United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket. The union has described him as a down to the earth and humble political leader. It has further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
CSF to organise a panel discussion on Aug. 5
Chakhesang Scholars Forum (CSF), in collaboration with the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC), will organise a panel discussion on the topic "Paradigm shift from degree education to value education" on August 5 at CBCC, Pfutsero. This was decided during a meeting held between the executives of CSF and CBCC at the mission centre, Pfutsero, on Saturday. The meeting discussed on the need to explore all possibilities to improve education quality, focus more on job-oriented vocational education and more importantly on moral and value education in Chakhesang areas. It informed that the panel discussion would be held in a series manner with Pfutsero and neighbouring villages.
