Postal department to hold Maha Mela on saving schemes
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): Postal Department, North East Region-II has informed that it is holding a Maha Mela from Feb. 20 to the 24th for awareness on post office saving schemes in Nagaland and Manipur. An update stated that all the post office staff will create awareness about the various saving scheme available in post offices for enrolling interested individuals for their benefit. The Postal Department appealed to the public to come to the post office and open account for various schemes which will be beneficial to them, as the government of India has recently hiked interest rates in various post office schemes. Postal savings schemes like saving banks accounts, recurring deposits, monthly income scheme, public provident fund, time deposits etc. are available, while insurance schemes like postal life insurance/rural postal life insurance can be availed.
Unidentified dead body recovered
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): Dimapur Police recovered the dead body of an unidentified non-local male lying below the steps of flyover bridge, Dimapur on February 19. Police in an update stated that the deceased, aged about 50 years, was found wearing black long pants, black sweater and sky blue shirt. On completion of legal formalities, the body was shifted to District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post mortem examination/identification. Claimant/relatives/friends of the deceased have been informed to contact officer-in-charge, East PS Dimapur (contact no.7085055020).
GPRN/NSCN asks members to refrain from poll activities
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): The GPRN/NSCN, Naga Unification Camp, Khehoyi, has informed all members of GPRN, both civil and military wing, to report and station themselves in their respective designated camps and units within three days. The GPRN/NSCN in a press communiqué also advised all its members to refrain from involving and sharing any political platform or campaigning activities in the ensuing the Nagaland Assembly election with any party/candidate, irrespective of any personal relationship/attachment. “This press communiqué is hereby issued in the backdrop of the Indo-Naga political issue still being in a vexed position to be resolved and the clamor for the Indian government sponsored election vigorously manifesting without any qualm and conscientiousness of the larger issue of the Naga national cause,” it stated.
Dimapur Naga Students' Union appeals to maintain peaceful atmosphere
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has urged Moatoshi Longkumer, the NDPP intending candidate, and Y Vikheho Awomi, LJP intending candidate, from Dimapur II assembly constituency, to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and abstain from anti-social activities which are disruptive to the process of a free and fair election. An update from DNSU said such disruptive actions by the campaigners at this time when the students of Class 10 and 12 are in serious preparation for their upcoming HSLC and HSSLC examinations is a vital concern as it terrifies and disturbs the students. The union further condemned the incident and requested all concerned citizens to maintain the true spirit of a peaceful election during the upcoming 14th NLA general election.
Commissioner of police informs on restrictions due to VVIP visit
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): In view of the VVIP visit to Chumoukedima on Feb. 21, the commissioner of police has imposed the following restrictions from 6 am to 6 pm within Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts due to security concern. It restricted the use of any kind of remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) like drones etc.; conduct of any kind of firing practice by security forces, civil police, central police, private firing range or any civilian holder of licensed fire arms; and bursting of any kind of firecrackers.
DC Wokha issues show cause notice 37 Tyui Ngullietsu Ekhung
Wokha, Feb. 20 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Wokha on February 19 issued a show cause notice to 37 Tyui Ngullietsu Ekhung (Chairman and secretary) on violation of various act under section 125 of Representation of People Act 1951 and Sections 171 C, 399, 340, 153 A, 153 B, 295 A and 505 (2) of Indian Penal Code where the 37 Tyui Ngullietsu Ekhung issued a resolution titled “Methak Yilan” on Feb. 12. In the letter, the DC informed the duo was called to appear in person on Feb. 20 at 3 pm. The 37 Tyui Ngullietsu Ekhung (37 Tyui Ngullie Clan) in their resolution expressed to support their consensus candidate only, while it also cautioned its members supporting other candidates would face certain consequences.
Mongsenyimti Village Council, Senso Mungdang appear before High Court
Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): The Riongsanger Putu Menden Village Council; and Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang appeared in Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench as directed on February 7.
An update stated that both organisations appeared in the Court on February 10, along with the written submission. It said that on consideration of their written submission, it was observed that they have in their volition categorically stated that, they have accepted the verdict of the High Court's Order on January 31, and the same is being followed in letter and spirit. “Hence, both Riongsanger Putu Menden/Village Council and Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang are directed to immediately refrain from open indulgence in politics by supporting or opposing any candidate failing which necessary action will be initiated as per law. Further, they were directed that all efforts and endeavors must be made so as to ensure that peaceful electioneering process is conducted in 24 Angetyongpang A/C, particularly in Mongsenyimti village,” it read.
