ADC Medziphema issues travel advisory
The additional deputy commissioner, Medziphema, has informed that the bridge located between Jharnapani and Molvom has been closed due to dismantling and construction works. According to a DIPR report all forms of vehicular traffic will be restricted from February 18. Commuters have been advised to use the alternate route via Tri Junction-Cattle Breeding Farm (towards SAS) - Dzumha river during the closure period. The order will remain in effect until the completion of the stipulated repair works and further notification from the district administration.
NU students take part in UNIFEST
Nagaland University (NU) has dispatched a contingent of 29 students and two faculty coordinators to the 39th Inter-University North East Zone Youth Festival 2025-26 (UNIFEST). In an update, the university informed that the event is being hosted by Assam Don Bosco University (Tapesia campus) from February 16 to the 20th. The UNIFEST provides a platform for talented students from across the region to showcase their artistic abilities while engaging in meaningful cultural exchange and healthy competition. “The festival celebrates artistic excellence and reinforces the core values of unity, discipline, and mutual respect,” it stated.
Unidentified male found dead in Dimapur
An unidentified male, believed to be a non-local and aged around 55 to 60 years, was found dead below the Flyover Bridge near Traffic Control, Dimapur, on February 17. According to a press release issued by Dimapur Police, on receiving the information from the Traffic Control office, a duty party rushed to the place of occurrence and found the dead body leaning on a pillar. An inquest was conducted over the body, and it was ascertained that the cause of death was suspected to be due to starvation and sickness. On completion of all legal formalities, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination. Claimants, relatives or friends of the deceased have been requested to contact the officer-in-charge of East Police Station, Dimapur, at mobile number 7085055020.
FGN ousts president Rakho Chakhesang
The Tatar Hoho of the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) in its emergency meeting held on Wednesday discussed the alleged rampant and mismanagement in the government machineries by Rakho Chakhesang, and decided to oust him for his unlawful activities. “The Tatar Hoho therefore voted out Rakho Chakhesang with immediate effect on February 18, 2026,” the MIP kilonser, FGN, stated in a termination order. It also informed that Tokaho Assumi has been elected as the new president. The Azha (order) shall come into immediate effect, it added.
Bharat Vistaar launched at NRC on Mithun Medziphema
The Phase–I national launch of the Bharat Vistaar Initiative was organised at ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, with the participation of 67 stakeholders, comprising 42 male and 25 female participants, including farmers, SHG members, and agricultural functionaries. The programme highlighted the objectives, features, and benefits of the AI-enabled platform aimed at strengthening digital extension and last-mile advisory services, an update stated. “The interactive session, conducted in Nagamese to ensure better understanding, enabled participants to raise queries that were addressed comprehensively, making the event highly informative and impactful,” it added.
