Kohima District Youth Festival scheduled for Sep. 11
DIMAPUR — The District Level Youth Festival 2026 for Kohima district is tentatively scheduled to be held on September 11. According to a DIPR report, the festival will provide a platform for young people to showcase their talents and creativity while promoting youth participation and self-reliance. The events will include Declamation as a solo event on the theme “Youth, skills and a self-reliant Nagaland”, along with group events in folk song and folk dance. All schools, colleges, youth clubs, and interested youth in Kohima district have been invited to participate. Participants must be between 15 and 29 years of age. The festival aims to identify and nurture young talent and select the best individuals and teams to represent Kohima district at the State Level Youth Festival 2026, scheduled to be held on September 29 at the IG Stadium. Interested participants have been requested to communicate their willingness to participate on or before September 7. A consultative meeting of the senior members of the Youth Association of Nagaland (YAN) was held on September 1 to discuss matters relating to the revival, strengthening, and future activities of the association. According to an update, the senior members unanimously selected A Shyerhunlo Lorin as the Interim President and T Chishi as the Secretary of the Youth Association of Nagaland. The meeting also authorised Lorin, in his capacity as interim president, to take the necessary initiative and responsibility for coordinating the upcoming silver jubilee celebration of YAN, in consultation with senior members and other concerned members of the association. It was further agreed that all major decisions and arrangements concerning the silver jubilee celebration shall be undertaken in consultation with senior members, with due regard to the unity, dignity, traditions, and objectives of the association.
Entrepreneurship held at Mount Carmel HSS
An invited talk on entrepreneurship and skill development was held for students at Mount Carmel Higher Secondary School in Kohima on September 1. According to an update, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, delivered a talk on the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and encouraged the younger generation to cultivate the mindset of a risk-taker and a problem-solver. He stressed the importance of acquiring skills in various fields for students, as prescribed by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, to reshape learning outcomes. He described how change is necessary in the educational system so that every student acquires skills and brings practical change and innovation to society, which will eventually contribute to achieving the vision of a developed nation by 2047.
42 Assam Rifles to conduct firing practice in Mon
Deputy Commissioner of Mon Wennyei Konyak has informed the public of Mon town that the 42 Assam Rifles will conduct firing and explosive practice at the Unit Firing Range, Tactical Headquarters Mon, from September 1 to the 30th. The training exercises will take place daily between 7 am and 7 pm, according to a DIPR report. During this period, loud sounds of firing and explosions may be heard in and around Mon town and adjoining areas. The public has been advised not to panic, as this is part of routine training. Furthermore, residents have been advised to avoid movement in the vicinity of the firing range and camp during the specified period and to ensure the safety of children and livestock.
Salesian College students stage drama 'Dance of Fortune'
A musical drama titled "Dance of Fortune", authored by Fr. Tom Karthik, was staged by the undergraduate philosophy students of Salesian College of Higher Education in Dimapur on August 29 and 30. According to an update, the performance, held at the Paul Bernick Hall, highlighted themes of poverty, wealth, education, family values, character, and the changing nature of fortune. The audience comprised students from various churches visited by the college brothers on Sundays, along with heads of neighbouring institutions in Dimapur. The story follows Robert and his sons, John and Lazarus, as they struggle with poverty and illness, while John works towards overcoming poverty through education and eventually succeeds in becoming a doctor.
