WSH backs CP’s efforts to curb illegal activities
DIMAPUR — The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH), led by its president Tokuho Suhoi Neho, paid a courtesy visit to Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, Aotula T Imchen, at her office on August 12 and held an extensive discussion on various issues confronting society. In a press release, the WSH lauded Imchen for her active role in curbing illegal activities in Dimapur and assured her of its full cooperation in her efforts to promote social harmony and peace. Imchen expressed her gratitude to the Hoho for its positive assurance to work collectively with the police to address illegal activities. She also voiced concern over the influx of illegal immigrants and the growing prevalence of drug use among the youth. The CP urged the Hoho to encourage young people to participate diligently in competitive examinations and pursue opportunities through hard work rather than relying on others for their livelihood. Imchen also expressed concern over the rising unemployment among the youth and emphasised that sustained hard work and self-reliance among young people were essential to overcoming the society’s growing dependency on others.
Kohima declares temporary Red Zone
The Superintendent of Police, Kohima, has declared the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza and adjoining areas within a 2-km aerial radius as a “Temporary Red Zone” and “No Drone Zone” in view of the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The restriction will remain in force from 6 pm on August 14 to 6 pm on August 15 to ensure the safety and security of dignitaries, participants and the general public and prevent possible security threats or breaches. During this period, the operation, launching, flying or use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)/drones within the designated area is strictly prohibited, except with specific authorisation from the competent authority under the Drone Rules, 2021. Unauthorised drone operations will invite immediate intervention and legal action under the Drone Rules and other applicable laws. The order noted that violations of Rules 22 and 27 are cognizable and non-compoundable under Rule 49 of the Drone Rules, 2021.
CETSE 2026 interviews Aug. 19-20
The Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) has issued the detailed interview schedule for the Combined Education and Technical Services Examination 2026 (CETSE 2026). The interviews will be held on August 19 and the 20th at the NSSB office in Kohima, near the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) office. According to a DIPR report, candidates in the morning group are required to report at 9:30 am, while those in the afternoon group must report at 12:30 pm. Candidates have been directed to bring all relevant documents in original on the day of the interview. The Board stated that no request for a change of interview slot will be entertained. The interview will be conducted in the form of a group interview. Candidates who do not fulfil the prescribed eligibility criteria will be disqualified. The NSSB further stated that candidates who fail to submit the Detailed Application Form (DAF), along with a medical fitness certificate issued by the District Medical Board, will not be eligible to appear for the interview, notwithstanding their inclusion in the detailed interview schedule at Annexure-I.
Excise seizes 1,120 IMFL bottles
The Narcotic Cell of the Excise Department has seized approximately 1,120 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during intensified enforcement operations conducted across Nagaland in the first week of August 2026. According to a press release issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Excise & Prohibition, the department conducted raids on several illegal liquor outlets and carried out Motor Vehicle Check Posts (MVCPs) along the inter-state Kushiabil four-lane road and highways as part of its ongoing drive against the unlawful possession and sale of liquor under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989. The enforcement operation was carried out by two groups of personnel, who seized assorted liquor of various brands and sizes with an estimated value of around INR1.35 lakh. AR firing practice in Mon
Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Wennyei Konyak, has informed the general public that the 42 Assam Rifles will conduct firing and explosive practice at the Unit Firing Range, Tactical Headquarters, Mon, from August 10 to the 31st. The practice will be conducted daily from 7 am to 7 pm. During this period, loud sounds of firing and explosions may be heard in and around Mon town and adjoining areas. According to a DIPR report, the public has been advised not to panic, as the activities are part of routine training exercises. Residents have also been advised to avoid movement in the vicinity of the firing range and camp during the specified period and to ensure the safety of children and livestock.
SCC hosts interdepartmental seminar
Sao Chang College (SCC), Tuensang, recently organised an interdepartmental seminar aimed at promoting academic exchange and interdisciplinary learning among faculty and students. The programme was chaired by K Vidila Jing, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, and featured two sessions. The first session, titled “Financial Implications of the 16th Finance Commission for Local Self-Government,” was presented by Bendangla Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. The presentation examined the financial implications of the 16th Finance Commission and its potential impact on local self-government and grassroots governance. The second session, titled “Significance of Naknyulum,” was delivered by A Chubasangla Hang, Assistant Professor, Department of Education. The session highlighted the cultural, social and educational significance of Naknyulum. Dr. S Arenla, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, served as the rapporteur for the programme.
