KSCJ hosts AD Shroff elocution
DIMAPUR — The Department of Economics, Kohima Science College (A), Jotsoma (KSCJ), in collaboration with the Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai, organised the 60th AD Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition at the college. According to an update from the college, the AD Shroff Memorial Lecture was delivered by Dr. Chubakumzuk Jamir, Head of the Department of Economics. Participants spoke on one of three themes: “Maintaining the Reforms Momentum: What Next?”, “Using AI to Enhance Human Productivity” and “Changing Geopolitics and Impact on India.” The college’s Vice-Principal, Kevilhuninuo Nagi, distributed prizes to the winners. The prizes, comprising cash awards and certificates, were sponsored by the Forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai. Liyani C Ezung of BA Semester I won the first prize, while Thejasi-i Nakhro of BSc. Semester I and Deborah Sachu of BA Semester I secured the second and third prizes, respectively.
CCC&TA lauds CCTV initiative
The Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce & Trade Association (CCC&TA) has appreciated Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Aotula T Imchen, for the recent installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at three prime locations in Chümoukedima town. In a press release, the association said the new CCTV network had enhanced the sense of safety and confidence among travellers and citizens, particularly in high-traffic areas. It also noted improved monitoring and quicker responses to incidents, adding that the initiative reflected proactive measures to prevent crime and maintain public order. The CCC&TA acknowledged the leadership of Imchen and the prompt efforts of the police personnel in implementing the project. It also appreciated DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma and the Police Department for their efforts across the state. The association expressed hope that the CCTV network would be maintained and expanded as required, and looked forward to continued cooperation between the police and the community to ensure a safe and secure town.
Seyochung holds coordination meeting
The coordination meeting of Seyochung sub-division was held on October 3 at the ADC’s office complex, Seyochung, under the chairmanship of ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe. During the meeting, Humtsoe welcomed the members and outlined the agenda, a DIPR report stated. He questioned the Power department over the non-posting of qualified technical officials at the Seyochung headquarters. The SDO (Power) highlighted the department’s constraints related to power supply, sensitisation on smart meters and delays in payment of electricity bills, which he said resulted in consumers having to pay late fines. The chairman also sought updates from the Agriculture department on the distribution of seeds and machinery to farmers and from the Medical department on the recent health camp conducted under Seyochung sub-division. The meeting also discussed the inter-departmental games and sports event. The members agreed to organise the tournament on October 29 and the 30th at Seyochung. All heads of departments attended the meeting.
Village adoption prog. held at GMS Chedema
A one-day community awareness and teachers’ orientation programme was held at GMS Chedema on October 5, organised by the State College of Teacher Education (SCTE), Kohima, under its Village Adoption Programme. The programme was held on the theme, “Promoting Mental Well-being in the Community and Strengthening Professional Competence among Teachers.” The programme began with a special talk on mental health awareness delivered by Dr. Viketuolie Pienyu, retired Senior Medical Officer, State Mental Health Institute. He highlighted the importance of mental well-being and awareness in the community through an interactive session. This was followed by orientation sessions led by Dr. Runi Nakro, Vice Principal, SCTE-K, and faculty members from the departments of Science, Mathematics, English and Social Science. The sessions focused on enhancing teachers’ professional competence, strengthening classroom practices and promoting effective teaching and learning. The programme brought together teachers and community members with the objective of promoting mental health awareness and contributing to the professional development of teachers.
