- NISC releases documentary on Naga struggle
- DIMAPUR — The Naga International Support Centre
(NISC) released “With Nagas,” an introductory documentary shedding light on the
Naga people, their culture, and their long struggle for self-determination, on
Monday. Produced by NISC and co-produced by ICNA, the 42-minute film explores
the Naga way of life, which is deeply rooted in indigenous democratic
traditions and community-driven organisations. According to an update, it also
highlights the lesser-known history of the Nagas.
- NAF mourns passing of Dr. Senkalong Yaden
- DIMAPUR — The Naga American Foundation (NAF)
mourned the passing of Dr. Senkalong Yaden, who died on March 14 in Tyler,
Texas. In a message, it honoured his life and legacy as a pioneer of the Naga
community in the United States and as the NAF’s first president, serving from
1988 to 1992. The foundation stated that Dr. Yaden, along with his wife, Theola
Thedford, hosted the 1994 NAF gathering in Texas. It noted that Dr. Yaden’s
vision and leadership helped establish the foundation for the NAF’s mission to
foster cultural, educational, and charitable initiatives for Nagas in America.
Over the years, he was not just a leader, but also a mentor, guardian, and
friend to many in the Naga American community. The foundation further mentioned
that Dr. Yaden’s significant academic achievements earned him the title of the
“Man of Science” in wider Naga circles, where he encouraged Naga youth to
participate in and contribute to the sciences.
- NSCN (KH) condoles demise of Hevuto
- DIMAPUR — Khango-Hokato Vusshe-led NSCN/GPRN
has condoled the demise of Hevuto Achumi of Khumishi ‘A’ Village and father of
Brig. Phuyeka Achumi, deputy chief of army staff, who passed away on March 14.
He was 85. It described him as an educationist, who established the first
private school in Aghunato town and
dedicated his time and efforts to shaping young minds and for the educational
growth and development of the future generation. He was also a founding member
of Aghunato Town Students’ Union. He also served in various civil, political
and social organisations in different capacities, as well as served as the GB
of Aghunato town, general secretary of the Indian National Congress (INC) of 34
A/C and general secretary of the Eastern Sema Games Association. NSCN/GPRN
lauded Hevuto Achumi for serving the society with genuine concern and humanity
till his last breath. It further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family
members and added that his legacy of service, dedication and love for his
family and community would always be remembered.
