DC Longleng issues travel advisory
DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Longleng has issued a travel advisory informing the public that the road connecting Longleng and Mokokchung is now motorable for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs). Travellers have been advised to use the following route: Longleng – Auching – Shangjen – Momching – Phampak – Yangpi – Noksen – Longmisa – NH-2 – Mokokchung. The approximate distance of the route is around 105 km. The advisory further urged travellers to exercise caution and remain vigilant for possible landslides, mudslides, and flash floods while travelling along the route. In case of any emergency or assistance, travellers may contact the Village Council Chairpersons (VCCs), Head GBs, or Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs) of the villages along the route.
AHoDs & HoDs meet on July 29
The Home Department has informed that a meeting of the Administrative Heads of Departments (AHoDs) and Heads of Departments (HoDs) is scheduled to be held on July 29 at 3 pm at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat conference hall, Kohima. According to an official bulletin, all AHoDs and HoDs have been informed to attend the meeting positively.
ZUF (J) leader joins NSCN (Niki)
The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) has welcomed David Gangmei, alias Tigerson, former secretary of the supervisory committee of the Zeliangrong United Front, ZUF (J), into its fold. In a press statement, the group said Gangmei was a member of the ZUF (J) delegation that held talks with the Government of India. Upon formally joining the NSCN/GPRN, Gangmei reportedly expressed confidence in the organisation's leadership and said he had joined the "mainstream Naga political group" to work for what he described as the greater Naga cause. According to the statement, Gangmei said his decision was driven by his commitment to the Naga political movement and its objective of sovereignty. The statement further quoted Gangmei as saying that, after representing ZUF (J) in two rounds of talks with the Government of India—an informal meeting in Imphal and an official meeting in New Delhi—he came to the realisation that his former organisation "has no vision for the Nagas as a whole."
JNV admissions process begins
Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Mon, Kedoseno Rino, has informed that the registration for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for admission to Class VI is being conducted online, according to a letter received from Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Stakeholders address cabbage crisis
A stakeholder meeting to address the cabbage marketing crisis in the Razeba range was held at Zhaveme village, Phek district, on July 24. According to a DIPR report, representatives of village institutions, government officials and private sector partners attended the meeting to explore immediate procurement and marketing linkages for farmers. The meeting aimed to operationalise partnerships at the grassroots level by facilitating market access for cabbage growers and providing timely support to farmers affected by the current disruption. Those present included Kelhouzakie Chielie, DHO Phek; Kentsinle Tep, EAC Razeba; Nukuzo Phesao, founder of Nature Fuel India; representatives of Sathwaro Farming, Bhavesh P Bumtariya and Mukundray P Bumtariya from Gujarat; VDB secretary, head GBs and village council members.
‘Catch the Rain’ awareness programme held in Pungro
An awareness programme on rainwater harvesting and water conservation under the theme "Catch the Rain" was held at the ADC's Conference Hall, Pungro, on Monday. According to a DIPR report, resource person Tsulimew, SDHA, PHED, highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting and recalled that the practice has been an integral part of Naga society since time immemorial. He cautioned that although the issue may appear insignificant at present, global freshwater reserves are under increasing stress. He said adopting rainwater harvesting and water conservation measures today would contribute to improving water security and enhancing groundwater recharge across the country. Delivering the concluding remarks, EAC Khongsa, Pauding Disuang, underscored the importance of community participation in harnessing the region's untapped water potential, describing public involvement as the cornerstone of the "Catch the Rain" campaign. Representatives from various government departments and concerned organisations attended the programme.
Child Aadhaar enrolment camp
The Economic & Statistics Office, Phek, will organise a Child Aadhaar Enrolment Camp for children in the 0-5 years age group at the DESO, Phek office premises from August 3 to the 14th. According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland, the camp is being organised for Aadhaar enrolment of children in the 0-5 years age group. Muyalo Kath, DESO, Phek, has requested parents and guardians of children aged 0-5 years to avail of the opportunity and bring their children to the camp along with the required documents for Aadhaar enrolment.
