Cyber cops arrest one for child pornography

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Personnel from Cyber Crime Police Station, PHQ, arrested one person from Kohima on May 18 for child pornography. According to a DIPR report, the accused was part of rooms/groups in the ‘Wickr app’ where child pornography was shared/posted among the members. It stated that the case was referred to Nagaland Police by Interpol in Stockholm through CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU). Nagaland Police informed that publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form is a criminal offense under IT Act. It stated that Wickr app, like WhatsApp, provides end-to-end encryption. It, however, added that the law enforcement agencies could gain access and detect criminal activities. In this regard, public are requested to inform the police department if the circulation of obscene and sexually explicit material is seen on social media platforms or messaging apps so that legal action could be initiated.

YR&S dept. invites application

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Youth Resources and Sports department has invited application to interested candidates to undergo the BPES course at Degree College of Physical Education (DCPE) Shree Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal, Amravati, Maharashtra, for the session 2023-25. It informed that the candidate should be 12th standard passed with 45% (minimum). It stated that only 10 seats for candidates are reserved. Interested candidates are asked to apply through the directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Kohima during office hours.

IUN holds talk on artificial intelligence

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Philosophy department of ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN) organised a talk on ‘Introduction to artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications’ on May 22 in its auditorium with Teisovi Angami, assistant professor of Information Technology from the School of Engineering and Technology, Nagaland University (NU) as the resource person. The resource person spoke on the history and types of AI and how it is being applied in our everyday lives and about some of his work with regard to the Nagamese creole. An update from the university stated that the programme coordinator and its assistant professor of Philosophy, Rovikotuo Yhoshu, highlighted on the need for the students to be informed and educated not only on their respective subjects but also of current trends in the world and about the applicability of philosophy in other fields.

NSCN (Niki) appoints new UT caretaker

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN has withdrawn the appointment of its kilonser, Kuhovi Zhimo, as the caretaker of union territory with immediate effect. A statement issued from the office of ato kilonser stated that kilonser, Kughalu Yeptho, has been assigned as the caretaker of union territory with immediate effect till further notice.

ESD&E appoints appellate authority

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): State government has appointed appellate authority (AA), public information officer (PIO) and assistant public information officer (APIO) in respect of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship department. The commissioner and secretary, Sushil Kumar Patel has been appointed as AA, joint secretary, Bendanglina as PIO and the deputy secretary, Nyempo Wallim as APIO.

Schools asked to observe ‘World No Tobacco Day’

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Nagaland, has appealed to all educational institutions in Nagaland to observe ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on May 31 on the theme "We need food, not tobacco." It has appealed to raise awareness on the dangers of tobacco use and its increasing influence on children and youth. To mark the significance of the day, institutions are asked to take up awareness activities and pledge against tobacco habit.

MDCVO appeals to release vehicle fees

Mokokchung, May 24 (EMN): The Mokokchung District Commercial Vehicle Owners’ Association (MDCVO) has requested the deputy commissioner and returning officer of Mokokchung to release the hire-fees for utilisation of commercial vehicles during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election held in the month of February 2023 within seven days. In an application to the DC and RO, the association stated that vehicles have been utilised on hire basis but no payments were till date. In this connection, the association has requested the concerned authority to release the dues to the respective owners of the vehicles within seven days. MDCVO included Truck Owners’ Association Mokokchung, Private Bus Union Mokokchung, Pick-up Union Mokokchung and All Nagaland Taxi Association Mokokchung Unit.

Indian army organises lecture

Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): To spread awareness about various recruitment schemes in Indian army as officers, junior commissioned officers, Agniveers and women military police, Army Recruiting Office, Rangapahar, held a lecture at Don Bosco College, Dimapur, on Wednesday. A defence release stated that the awareness-cum-interaction lecture included all aspects of Agniveer scheme and its benefits, various schemes for of entry as an officer, registration procedure through the Indian army website, current recruitment procedure and other important miscellaneous issues. The event was attended by approximately 320 students and 10 teachers.
