ENPUK demands action in Chiechama shooting case
DIMAPUR — The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union Kohima (ENPUK) has condemned the alleged shooting of Langshi Chang at Chiechama village in Kohima district on September 16. According to ENPUK, Chang, a daily wage labourer engaged at a Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) construction site, was allegedly shot with a .22 country-made rifle by Medochulie Rurhie Zumvü of Chiechama village. The union alleged that the accused had earlier thrown stones and blocks at the workers and threatened them to stop working at the site. ENPUK said the incident highlighted the need for contractors and government departments to ensure safety and protection of workers at construction sites. It said Chang, the sole breadwinner of his family, faces financial hardship due to the incident. The union urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the case and take legal action, including measures to ensure justice for the victim. It also appreciated the Chiechama Village Council, youth and Nagaland Police for taking the accused into custody.
Body recovered at Rail Bazaar
A male unidentified body was found at Rail Bazaar, Dimapur, on September 22. According to Dimapur Police, telephonic information was received at Sub-Urban Police Station at around 10:30 am, following which police personnel rushed to the place of occurrence for verification. An inquest was conducted over the dead body. Police stated that the cause of death was suspected to be natural and starvation. After completion of all legal formalities, the deceased was shifted to the District Hospital, Dimapur, morgue for post-mortem examination and identification. ZWAD condemns civilian killing
The Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD) has expressed shock and condemned the alleged killing of NK Wiphenbou, son of NK Maihinlakbou of Upper Nkou Naga village. In a statement, ZWAD alleged that Wiphenbou was killed on September 21 by cadres of Kuki armed groups, KNF-P and KRA. It described the incident as an unprovoked attack on an unarmed civilian and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. The association expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the Upper Nkou community, extending condolences to Wiphenbou’s parents and loved ones. It association appealed to the central and state governments and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action, identify and apprehend those responsible, and ensure that they are brought to justice without delay.
Dimapur to hold DCHB training
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, Dimapur, will conduct a training programme for field functionaries in preparation for the Village/Town Directory for the District Census Handbook (DCHB) under Census 2027. Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has informed that the training for field functionaries of Dimapur Sadar, Dimapur Municipal Council and East Dimapur will be held on September 23 at the Circuit House, Dimapur, a DIPR report stated. The training programme will be conducted from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm as per the detailed schedule. All concerned field functionaries have been directed to attend the programme without fail, with attendance being mandatory.
Shamator training focuses on error-free Census data
A training programme on the District Census Handbook for Village and Directory for Field Functionaries was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Shamator, on September Tuesday, with SDO (C), Shamator, Athrong, addressing the programme. Athrong spoke on the importance of providing correct and accurate information during the Census exercise, emphasising that reliable data is essential to reflect the actual and current demographic and socio-economic profile of villages, a DIPR report stated. He also urged the trainees to remain attentive throughout the training and thoroughly understand the procedures and use of the prescribed applications to avoid errors. He further emphasised that the Census exercise is technology-based, and field functionaries must be well acquainted with the applications and ensure that data is entered accurately and responsibly.
