Tikhir unions host cultural programme at Tsiesema Basa


DIMAPUR — The Tikhir Union Kohima, Tikhir Women Union Kohima and Tikhir Students’ Union Kohima, jointly organised a cultural programme on Saturday at Tsiesema Basa, Kohima, on the theme ‘Poji Vichit Shin Alokshimti.’ Kiusumong Tikhir, OSD to the chief minister, the special guest of the event, encouraged the gathering to give importance to cultural preservation, handicraft and on the significance of traditional weaving by womenfolk, an update stated. Highlights of the programme included traditional car racing, Tikhir cuisine competition, bamboo stilt racing, rice pounding, catapult shooting, cotton yarning, tug of war and folk dance. The ‘Tikhir Sisters’ band presented a special song, while the three unions showcased cultural performances, the update stated.


ANCSU holds 2nd presidential council meeting in Kohima


DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) held its second presidential council meeting at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, on Saturday. According to an update, the agendas discussed and deliberated were ANCSU 22nd biennial general conference 2025 and other relevant issues confronting the college community. The union also conducted the ‘Culture of Education for Nagas on YouTube’ (CENY) prize distribution ceremony, with Longnai Phom (Yingli College, Longleng) and Vikishe Zhimo (Dimapur Government College) emerging as winners. They were rewarded with “basic laptop for editing and recording mic/podcast mic worth INR 50,000 and seed fund of INR 25,000 covering research and travel for field trips.” The CENY objective is designed with the aim of encouraging educational content on YouTube under the initiative of Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir, it stated.

Nagaland BJP joins nationwide GST campaign


RTO Mokokchung to conduct camp office in Longleng town


DIMAPUR — The Transport office, Longleng, has notified that there will be camp office-cum-enforcement drive in Longleng town from October 15 to the 17th by the officials and staff of Regional Transport Office Mokokchung. During the camp office, services related to driving license, registration of motor vehicles and enforcement will be facilitated by the team as per the provisions of the MV Act & Rules 1989, a DIPR report stated. The office also informed that for Learner’s Driving License (LDL), applicants are requested to produce Aadhaar card, ID/Passport and recent passport size photographs for proof of identity. It informed the general public to avail the special opportunity provided by the department.


Earthquake disaster mock exercise conducted in Tuensang


DIMAPUR — The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tuensang, conducted a mock drill on October 10 at New DC office complex, Tuensang. The mock drill exercise simulated earthquake scenario, testing response to fire, building collapse, and evacuation, a DIPR report stated. The exercise was conducted as preparatory measures and was jointly organised by 12 BN NDRF, DDMA Tuensang and district administration, with participation from the Home Guard & Civil Defence and SDRF Tuensang, Fire & Emergency Service, District Executive Force (DEF), DPRO Tuensang, Medical department and NCC Tuensang. In the debriefing session, DC Tuensang Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa expressed gratitude to all departments for their cooperation and participation. Following the exercise, the NDRF provided hands-on training to NCC participants.


ADC Medziphema issues travel advisory


DIMAPUR — The ADC of Medziphema has informed that the bridge connecting Khaibung and Zhuikhu is closed due to ongoing works, which couldn't be completed on time due to unfavourable weather. In this connection, vehicular traffic will be restricted till November 8, a DIPR report stated. Commuters have been advised to use the alternate route: Moava - Sainik School - Punglwa - Jharnapani. The order will remain effective until further notification from the district administration.
