DIMAPUR — The Department of Youth Resources
and Sports informed of Nagaland's participation in the 8th North East Youth
Festival, held from March 17 to the 20th in Gangtok, Sikkim. The event was
organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim,
in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of
India. According to an update, a contingent of 29 participants and four
officials represented Nagaland in the four-day event, competing in folk song,
folk dance, and the ‘Know Your North East’ quiz, while also taking part in
non-competitive adventure activities. Team Nagaland secured second place in the
folk song competition, fourth place in folk dance, and third place in the
"Know Your North East" quiz.
MLA Dr. Rhutso leads medical outreach in Noklak
DIMAPUR — The Chief Minister’s Mobile
Operation Theatre (CM-MOT) camp, headed by MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso,
commenced at Noklak on Monday. According to a DIPR report, speaking at the
launch programme, Dr. Rhutso stated that CM-MOT is a programme aimed at reaching
those in need of medical help, even in the most remote parts of the state. He
explained that many patients from these areas are unable to access quality
medical facilities due to financial constraints and other reasons. Therefore,
CM-MOT was initiated with the sponsorship of the Chief Minister of Nagaland.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Noklak Arikumba, GBs, the
Khiamniungan Tribal Council, KMH, KSU, and medical staff. The camp will
conclude on March 25.
Seminar on Phom literature held in Longleng
DIMAPUR — The Department of School Education,
Longleng, in collaboration with the Phom People Council and Phom Baptist
Christian Association, organised a seminar on Phom literature on Monday at PBCA
Hall, Longleng. According to a DIPR report, the resource person, vice principal
of Yingli College, Longleng, Dr. B Henshet Phom, spoke on the importance of
language. Secretary of the Phom Literature Board (PLB), Bongshen Phom, shared
insights on spelling patterns, while P Henyei Phom, a member of the PLB,
presented on spelling patterns through a PowerPoint presentation. The programme
commenced with short speeches from the DEO of Longleng, Tinumayang, and
president of the Phom People Council, YB Angam Phom.
DIMAPUR — The department of History, Yingli
College, Longleng, organised a field trip to Pongo village, Longleng on March
22. The trip aimed to provide students with historical insights into
traditional pottery-making, its cultural significance, and the importance of
preserving traditional crafts as part of cultural heritage, according to an
update. During the visit, students were encouraged to look beyond the craft of
pottery and engage in deeper conversations on its historicity, including
rituals and taboos (gennas) associated with it. They also engaged in hands-on
learning, observing and participating in the various stages of pottery
production.
Block health melas held in Zunheboto
DIMAPUR — Under the aegis of the National
Health Mission (NHM), the District Health Society, Zunheboto, organised block
health melas at Atoizu PHC (Sadar Block) on March 21 and Tizu Island and
Kathara SC (Suruhuto Block) on March 22. An update stated that these
initiatives were aimed at delivering quality healthcare services to
hard-to-reach areas and villages lacking regular health unit coverage,
providing free and comprehensive healthcare services to communities with
limited access to medical facilities, and ensuring that people benefit from
government health schemes. During the mela, the key services offered included
the creation of digital health IDs to streamline healthcare records, screening
for communicable and non-communicable diseases, and the provision of necessary
medical care, as well as the issuance of PM-JAY-CMHIS to enhance financial
protection in healthcare.
298 candidates take State Level Eligibility Test
DIMAPUR — Nagaland University conducted the
State Level Eligibility Test (SET) at the School of Agricultural Sciences
(SAS), Medziphema campus, on March 23. A total of 298 candidates appeared for
the examination across 20 different subjects, stated an update. The SET is a
crucial qualification for candidates aspiring to apply for the post of
assistant professor in their respective disciplines. The examination was
conducted under the supervision of Prof. KK Jha, coordinator, and Prof.
Tongpang Longkumer, assistant coordinator. Prof. Dipak Sinha, in-charge
pro-vice chancellor, also visited the examination centre to oversee the
proceedings and ensure the test was conducted smoothly and without disruptions.
Additionally, Prof. L Daiho, dean, was present during the examination period to
provide support and ensure the seamless conduct of the exam.
NCD screening drive conducted in Wokha
DIMAPUR — The Medical Department, Wokha,
conducted a special non-communicable diseases (NCDs) screening drive at Wokha
Town Baptist Church on March 23. During the campaign, Dr. N. Mhonchan Kithan,
Medical Superintendent of Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha,
highlighted that, in view of the escalating burden of NCDs in the country, the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had launched an intensified special NCD
screening campaign from February 20 to March 31, 2025. This ambitious
initiative aims to achieve 100% screening of all individuals aged 30 years and
above to prevent NCDs, including diabetes, hypertension, oral cancer, breast
cancer, and cervical cancer. Dr. N. Mhonchan Kithan, MS, DMMDH, encouraged the
congregation to undergo regular health check-ups and seek timely treatment.
