Committee on privileges to meet
Chairman of Committee on privileges, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire has convened its first meeting on June 6 in the committee room of the Nagaland legislative assembly secretariat, Kohima, at 11 am. In a press release, the additional secretary Susieyana has requested all the committee members to attend the proposed meeting without fail.
State to observe World Environment Day
Department of environment, forest & climate change has announced to observe the World Environment Day at NBCC Convention Centre, below New Secretariat complex, Kohima, on June 5 at 10 am on the theme ‘Beat plastic pollution.’ A DIPR report stated that the state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, would grace the occasion as the main speaker and the minister of environment, forest & climate change and parliamentary affairs, CM Chang, would deliver the keynote address.
Wakching students condemn rape
Wakching Area Students’ Union (WASU) has expressed anguished over the incident of rape on a 12 years old girl in Mon town by one Rahul Sen, son of Subrata Sen of Namrup Bengal Gaon of Assam’s Dibrugarh district. WASU president, Chinge M Konyak, and the general secretary, Wejai Konyak, have appealed the law enforcing agencies to award befitting punishment to the culprit. WASU reminded the authorities that ‘actions’ are necessary to stop recurrence of such incident in future.
MTLT condemns rape of minor girl
Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has expressed shock over the rape of a minor girl by a non-local in Mon town. A press release from the MTLT informed that the perpetrator was said to be a watchmaker, who was identified as Rahul Sen, a resident of Namrup Bengal Gaon in Assam. In the updates, the group stated that the very act of violating a young 13 year old girl on two occasions was totally infuriating, disgusting, and downright inhuman. MTLT has appealed to all sensible mainland Indians to root out such anti-socials from the community. MTLT has also demanded the most stringent punishment to the accused.
Obassi to observe World Environment Day
The Old Boys Association of Sainik School Imphal, Nagaland chapter, has decided to observe the World Environment Day on June 5 by organising a plantation drive in and around Dimapur District Hospital. The association informed that Kesonyu Yhome, commissioner of taxes, had consented to grace the occasion as a special invitee. The association has requested all the members to report at the venue at 7 am sharp.
State BJP congratulates Yepthomi
President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Visasolie Lhoungu, on behalf of the party, has congratulated Tokheho Yepthomi, the Peoples Democratic Alliance consensus candidate on his victory in the recently held Lok Sabha by-election. A BJP press release stated that despite stiff opposition against the PDA during the campaign, the outcome proved the people’s support and faith on the PDA government. The party has affirmed to uphold the aspirations of the people in the days to come. The party further lauded the chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, for spearheading the campaigns in ensuring victory of its party candidate.

Anglers have announced to organise an open competition at Musu Angling Club on June 9. The competition carries a total cash prizes of INR 2.5 lakhs.
