Nagaland NET Qualified Forum welcomes the Gauhati High Court ruling concerning contractual appointments in Higher Education.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) has welcomed the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench judgement concerning contractual appointments of assistant professors and librarians under the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland.
In a press statement, the NNQF said it has been filing writ petitions since 2019 challenging contractual appointments in the department, alleging that many of the posts were filled without open advertisement, and some appointees did not possess the requisite qualifications at the time of appointment.
Referring to the Division Bench judgement which quashed two earlier single judge judgements passed in 2022 and 2025, the forum said the ruling had reaffirmed constitutional principles concerning equality and equal opportunity in public employment.
The NNQF also referred to the court's findings concerning Regulation 13 of the UGC Regulations and the directions against extending the services of the contractual employees.

The forum acknowledged the organisations, groups and individuals who contributed towards sustaining the case, describing the outcome as a collective achievement.
It said the judgement had reaffirmed people's faith in the judiciary and appealed to the public to continue supporting its efforts towards "restoring faith in the system".
