DIMAPUR — Four subjects of the ongoing Class 9 examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) have reportedly been leaked, sparking public outrage over examination security and the credibility of the department.

Media reports stated that 16 students from different schools were found in possession of leaked papers in Social Science, English, Alternative English, and Science.

The Class 9 exams began on November 21 and are scheduled to conclude on December 4, with only Mathematics and the optional subject left.

The matter came to light after reports of malpractices involving children of NSCN (IM) staff writing the same examinations. This was disclosed by Capt. (retired) Viyito Yeptho, CAO of UT-I, NSCN (IM), during a press briefing on Sunday.

Yeptho said one person, identified as Mughashe Sema, a computer assistant at PM Shri Government High School, Burma Camp, was taken into the group’s custody in connection with the leak. He stated that the accused had confessed to the act.

According to his statement, Mughashe admitted to leaking the papers, claiming the act was unintentional and done “on compassionate grounds” for a student who had sought help due to academic difficulties.

Reportedly, he confessed to printing the question papers at 7 am after accessing the School Education department’s portal using a password obtained from the headmistress and forwarding them to the student. The papers were later circulated among others.

Meanwhile, Yeptho urged NBSE to implement stronger safeguards to prevent breaches of examination norms. Questioning the credibility of the board, he said the public would not accept such malpractice.
