Dimapur, Jan. 13 (EMN): Nagaland Building & Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) has launched the ‘Media Fellowship 2023’ on Thursday, at the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) conference hall, Kohima.
The chief executive officer of NBOCWWB, Dr. T Chubayanger, who chaired the function, stated that the success of the first media fellowship in 2022 motivated the NBOCWWB to announce the media fellowship 2023.
The chairman of NBOCWWB, Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, stated that after the success of the first media fellowship, which depicted the plight of construction workers, the NBOCWWB has decided to award the fellowship to two parties, namely the Kohima Press Club (KPC) and DIPR.
He informed that DIPR would initiate the production of two documentaries. The first documentary would be centred on the plight of immigrants workers engaged in Nagaland in the construction sector and the second documentary on internal migration within Nagaland amongst Nagas in the search for livelihood through the construction sector. He also stated that the Kohima Press Club (KPC) would initiate awards in three categories namely feature writing and reporting, photojournalism and video journalism.
During the acceptance speech, IPR head of department, Dzüvinuo Theünuo, stated that it was a privilege to accept the media fellowship 2023 on behalf of the department. She called it a "privilege bestowed to the department as an organisation."
She emphasised that while there might exist logistic and professional technicalities, Nagas do not lack talent or creativity in production of documentaries.
Theünuo added that in 2022, the department engaged two reputed production houses in Nagaland to produce two short-length public service announcements (PSA).
She stated that the public have been educated about the world of the unorganised sector and also elaborated on the conditions of daily wagers, mentioning that they earn their livelihood through toils and sweat, working daily irrespective of weather conditions and time.
“If targeted beneficiaries are not getting benefits, departments are duty-bound to bridge the gap in the delivery of welfare schemes," she said.
She further stated that the board would provide full assistance to the NBOCWWB.
Convenor of Kohima Press Club Media Fellowship 2022, Rita Krocha, expressed gratitude to NBOCWWB for awarding the media fellowship to KPC and stated that apart from feature writing or reporting, NBOCWWB has extended the fellowship to other mediums like photo journalism and video journalism, which has helped in imparting awareness to the public.
