Kohima, Nov. 14 (EMN): Ministers' Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS) observed Children's Day cum pre-Christmas 2022 on Monday at the school premises in Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the school management board, Kedise Pucho said Children's Day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India who was popular among children.
He narrated that Nehru loved children and cherished every moment he spent with them, while advocating that every child has an equal right to safety, health and education.
He emphasised that it was crucial to nurture and educate children properly. "The day is also to realise their importance in nation-building and provide them the opportunity to open their wings and to fly high to achieve their goals," Pucho said.
To mark the day, he urged that a pledge should be taken to ensure that every child in the school enjoys equal rights, safety and quality education.
Pucho also said the year is ending and that Christmas is around the corner. As such, he reminded about the birth of Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ while wishing a merry and joyful Christmas.
Shanchobeni Kikon, a student from the school who also shared a Christmas message, said that this festive season every home is expected to be decorated with Christmas trees and lights while the aroma of delicious dishes and cakes will fill the kitchens, gifts and presents lying on the table and new clothes in the closets.
However, this Christmas, she advised not to forget to light one's home with smiles and spread the joy of peace or share a meal with a struggling children or hungry strangers, talk about the love of God to a dying soul or give one's pocket money to the needy.
Jongshijiba Ozukum, principal of the school, stated that MHBHSS stand for holistic growth of each individual student with value based education.
From this year's academic session, after a break of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic, he informed how the school has started to focus on conceptualising teaching to create a strong foundation of students' right from LKG to XI standard.
As per recommendation of NEP - 2020, Ozukum mentioned that the school is also focusing on vocational subjects, adding that they have robotics and coding, ITeS, music and arts and crafts.
On the occasion, awards for best student, best class captain and vice-captain, best house captain and vice-captain were given away to various students as well as winners of different disciplines in sports.
Students who excelled in different competitions within and outside the state and outside were also felicitated.
The event was marked by lively songs, dances, skits etc. from both teachers and students.
