Dimapur, Jan. 13 (EMN): Mech Kachari community celebrated Aai Sagi, a post harvest festival of the community, at Kachari community playground in Kushiabill-Darogajan on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy chief executive member of Boro Karchari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Assam, Romeo P Narzary, has stressed on the importance of one’s own identity and commended the Kachari people living in Dimapur for preserving their culture and habits.
He encouraged them by saying that even if they are minority in Nagaland and have less number of villages, they should not be disheartened as quality is better than quantity.
He urged the Mech Kacharis to preserve their mother tongue and to excel in whatever they do. Narzary also appealed the community to maintain good relationship with the neighbouring communities and give equal respect to everyone.
Further, he exhorted the youngsters to work hard as the world has become so competitive today and that if they do not work hard, they will not be able to achieve anything. “Play your role properly for the development of the society,” he added.
Dharma Dhaj Sonowal, general secretary of Mech Kachari Public Organisation (MKPO), shared on the significance of Aai Sagi festival.
Cultural dances were performed by Gyanswrang cultural troupe, Burkhang cultural society and Naharbari cultural troupe.
