
Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has disposed of 248 out of the total 1001 cases worth INR 3,66,22,776 during its fourth quarter national Lok Adalat (people’s court) held across 11 districts in Nagaland on March 12.
An update from NSLSA stated that a total of 11 Lok Adalat sitting benches were constituted in the respective district headquarters. It stated that a total of 248 out of the total 1001 cases/ disputes were disposed off during the state Lok Adalat. The cases settled at the Lok Adalat mostly related to bank recovery, motor accident claim tribunal (MACT) and criminal compoundable cases.
It has attributed the success to arbitration, conciliation and amicable efforts by conciliators presided over by the judges of the subordinate courts in the districts. It stated that cases were settled based on mutual agreement between the litigants (or) parties involved in a dispute. It also included the fine money, bank recovery money, money suits, compensation money, etc.
It mentioned that NSLSA has been vested with the jurisdiction to organise and conduct the national Lok Adalat through alternate dispute resolution methods. Lok Adalat is conducted on a yearly quarterly basis for enabling the citizens to settle their disputes free of cost across the state.
As per provisions in the Lok Adalat (NALSA) regulations-2009, Lok Adalat is a system where the settlement of disputes between the parties is achieved through conciliatory and pervasive effort.
In Wokha, 13 cases mostly bank recovery cases were subsequently disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 24,53,172, while in Zunheboto, two bank recovery cases were taken up and one case under prelitigation stage was disposed with a settlement amount of INR 3,09462.
In Mokokchung, the DLSA took up seven cases of criminal compoundable nature and disposed of six cases with a settlement amount of INR 27000, while in Kiphire four out of 19 cases were disposed off with a total settled amount of INR 94,658.
In Peren, a total a total number of 17 bank loan defaulters at pre-litigation stage were taken up and settled at an amount of INR 24,42,614, while in Phek district 31 out of the total 52 cases were settled amounting to INR 34,42,289.
In Dimapur, a total of 90 cases were settled at an amount of INR 2,60,20,993, while in Mon, 23 cases out of the total 80 were settled amounting to INR 2,29,500.
In Kohima, 34 cases were disposed off with a settlement amount of INR 1,400,964 out of the total 286 cases on bank recovery cases and 400 telephone and mobile bill recovery cases.
In Tuensang, 10 out of 12 cases were settled at an amount of INR 5,84000, while in Longleng, 18 out of the total 21 cases under pre-litigation stage were disposed off amounting to INR 2,06500.
