DIMAPUR — In a significant move to strengthen school safety across the state, the Government of Nagaland has launched a pioneering school safety policy compliance course.
The course was developed in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Department of School Education (DoSE) and NagaEd.
Referring to the recent data, an update from NagaEd pointed out that 98% of schools across India remain unprepared to effectively respond to disasters. It added that from earthquakes and landslides to fires and flash floods, schools are vulnerable epicenters, often lacking basic emergency protocols, trained staff or structural preparedness.

Recognising this gap, it stated that Nagaland has taken decisive action through the rollout of a statewide, contextualised disaster preparedness training programme for schools.
Unlike conventional workshops or one-time training, it stated that the NSDMA school safety policy compliance course was built using modern instructional design principles tailored to Nagaland’s unique geographic and socio-cultural realities.
Developed by NagaEd, the course is designed to transform the National School Safety Policy (NSSP 2016) into a practical, engaging and replicable training experience.
It mentioned that the course was met with strong engagement from school administrators and teachers across the state since its launch.
As the first state in the region to institutionalise a school safety compliance course, it stated that Nagaland’s approach has set a new benchmark for disaster preparedness in the education sector.
It further stated that the model offers a powerful blueprint for other states, NGOs and CSR stakeholders seeking to implement school safety programmes rooted in sustainability and impact.
