Nagaland leaders and organisations expressed grief over the passing of Advisor Imkong L Imchen, remembering his statesmanship and service.

DIMAPUR — Condolences continue to pour in over the demise of Imkong L Imchen, MLA and advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, who passed away on November 11.
Metsubo Jamir: Minister of Rural Development and State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Metsubo Jamir, has expressed profound sorrow at the sudden demise of Imchen and conveyed his deepest condolences to Alila Imkong and family.
Jamir described Imchen as “a towering leader, a dear friend, and a respected statesman of our time,” noting that his passing leaves “a void that words can scarcely fill”.
He stated that Imchen’s prominence in public life, voluntary service, and contributions to Ao Senden and AKM in its formative years remain visible in the unity of the Ao community.
Jamir remarked that in his demise, Nagaland had lost one of its finest sons, whose absence will be deeply felt. He extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for divine comfort and peace during this time of sorrow.

Leaders, citizens bid farewell to Imkong L Imchen in Mokokchung
C L John: Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Village Guards, C L John, also expressed deep shock and sadness over the demise of Imchen.
In his condolence message, John noted that Imchen, who represented the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency, had served with distinction in various capacities. Describing him as a man of integrity, wisdom, and dedication, John said that Imchen was known for his straightforwardness, hard work, and commitment to public service.
He further stated that Imchen’s passing is a great loss not only to the Ao community and his constituency but also to the Naga people at large.
Sümi Hoho: The Sümi Hoho also expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Imchen.
The organisation stated that the five-time MLA was widely admired for his statesmanship, eloquence, and steadfast commitment to public service. It recalled that over the years, he had held several important ministerial portfolios, including Home, Health and Family Welfare, Power, and Rural Development, and had served the people of Nagaland with distinction and integrity.
The Sümi Hoho stated that his demise was a great loss to the state and its people and joined the people of Nagaland in mourning his passing while conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. It prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
THN: The Tangkhul Hoho, Nagaland (THN), conveyed its profound sadness at the passing of Imchen. The organisation remembered the late leader for his humility, commitment, and accessibility.
THN recalled Imchen’s early leadership as general secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), noting his firm stance on important issues facing Naga society and his efforts to promote unity under the theme ‘Nagas without Borders’. The organisation praised his bold yet approachable nature and his immense service to society in various capacities as a senior statesman.
“In his demise, late Imkong has left a big void in public life which is a collective loss for the Naga society,” THN stated, while extending heartfelt commiserations to his family and praying for strength and comfort.
TUN: Similarly, the Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) expressed deep sadness at the passing of Imchen.
In a statement, the union described Imchen as a veteran leader who served the Naga people with unwavering commitment and distinction. It highlighted his upright and fearless nature, saying he stood firm for what he believed was right and never hesitated to speak his mind for the good of the people.
The TUN noted that Imchen’s long and distinguished public service had left a lasting impact on Nagaland’s political and social landscape. With his passing, it said, Nagaland had lost a seasoned statesman and guiding presence.
The TUN extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and comfort in their loss and for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
Hayithung Bill Lotha: Former Lok Sabha MP candidate Hayithung Bill Lotha also expressed sorrow over the demise of Imchen, describing him as a giant political figure and statesman of unique stature.
Hayithung stated that Imchen’s achievements and accomplishments reflected wisdom and inspirational leadership, and his immense contributions in various capacities would be cherished and remembered for generations.
