Nagaland's Department of Horticulture organised a sensitisation programme to promote commercial cultivation of anthurium and lilium under the Development (SRE) 2025–26 mission.
DIMAPUR — The Department of Horticulture on Thursday organised a sensitisation programme on the development of floriculture in mission mode under the Development (SRE) 2025–26 at the Directorate of Horticulture conference hall in Kohima.
According to an official update, the programme aimed to sensitise selected beneficiaries on the objectives, implementation strategy and technical aspects of the mission.
The initiative seeks to promote the commercial cultivation of anthurium and lilium, strengthen the state's floriculture sector, enhance farmers' income through high-value floriculture, generate employment opportunities, and develop a sustainable, market-oriented floriculture ecosystem.
The project will also provide technical guidance and handholding support to beneficiaries for three years to ensure the successful establishment, cultivation and long-term sustainability of floriculture units. It also includes a buy-back policy to support marketing of the produce.
Delivering the keynote address, Commissioner & Secretary of the Department of Horticulture, Akumla Chuba, highlighted the immense potential of floriculture in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. She encouraged beneficiaries to adopt scientific cultivation practices for the successful implementation of the project.

During the technical session, experts from M/s North Bengal Floritech conducted an orientation on the cultivation, management and post-planting care of anthurium and lilium. An interactive session followed, allowing beneficiaries to seek clarification on various aspects of the project's implementation.
The programme was attended by officials of the department, representatives of the service provider, M/s North Bengal Floritech, and selected beneficiaries from Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur and Niuland districts.
Earlier, Director of Horticulture Ayieno Hibo welcomed the participants and reiterated the department's commitment to promoting floriculture as a viable and sustainable enterprise.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by Deputy Director of Horticulture Neisetuonuo Debbie.
