Nagaland Labour department organises ESI awareness programme in Wokha

DIMAPUR — The Department of Labour organised an awareness programme on the Employees State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, accompanied by a free medical health camp and registration drive at Tiyi Hall in Wokha, on September 26.

According to a DIPR report, the programme was chaired by Deputy Labour Commissioner of Wokha, Thungbemo Lotha, who emphasised the importance of social security schemes in safeguarding the welfare of employees.

Additional Labour Commissioner and CEO of ESI Scheme, Nagaland, Avile Vitso, in her keynote address, highlighted the core objectives of the ESI Scheme, stressing the need to introduce and extend its benefits to both citizens and employees across sectors.

She appealed for active participation and cooperation, noting that the scheme would contribute significantly to the overall well-being of the workforce.

SDO (Civil) Wokha, Echungbemo Erui, who also addressed the gathering, encouraged employees and employers to register under the ESI Scheme for effective regulation and mutual benefit.

He assured that the district administration would extend necessary support to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme across Wokha district.

Chubalemba from ESIC Dimapur branch office, spoke on the various benefits of the ESI Scheme, which include medical care for insured persons and their families, sickness and maternity benefits, and financial support in case of employment-related injuries or disabilities.

Camp Officer, ESIC Dimapur, Uptal Pandit, elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of employers under the scheme. He emphasised timely registration, contribution compliance, and accurate record-keeping as essential duties to ensure that employees receive their entitled benefits without delay.

An interactive discussion hour followed, allowing participants to raise queries and seek clarifications. The programme concluded with remarks from Assistant Labour Commissioner and Nodal Officer for ESI Scheme, Nagaland, Zaremo Kikon, who thanked all stakeholders for their presence and cooperation.

The event was followed by a free health check-up and on-the-spot registration drive, enabling eligible individuals to enrol under the ESI Scheme.

The Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme provides medical and financial benefits to registered employees and their families. Key benefits include free medical care, sickness and maternity support, compensation for work-related injuries, and dependents’ benefits. It is jointly funded by employers and employees and managed by ESIC to ensure social security for the workforce.
