Nagaland Kung-Fu team win big in Bhutan

  • DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Shaolin Kung-Fu Association (ANSKA), representing Nagaland, secured an impressive haul of 13 gold medals and four silver medals at the recently concluded 5th International Sports and Games Tournament.

  • Held in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, from January 21 to 23, the tournament was organised by the International All Sports Games Federation, according to a press release.

  • The team's outstanding performance also earned them the coveted title of "team champion" at the tournament.

  • It was mentioned that a total of 17 participants and five team officials represented Nagaland, competing against teams from various countries in different categories.

  • ANSKA extended its heartfelt gratitude to its sponsors, Governor La. Ganesan, the State Youth Resource and Sports Department, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority Joint CEO Dr. Johnny Raungmei, State Transport Commissioner Elias T Lotha, DIPR Director Dzüvinuo Theünuo, proprietor of Seyie Auto and Seyie Gas Kuolacalie Seyie, Holy Cross Church Parish priest Rev. Fr. John PM, Rev. Fr. Jojiang Daniel Gangmei, coordinator DBSA Dimapur province, and the parents of participants.

  • The gold medallists were instructor Ayhunlo Jude Khing (under 75 kgs), assistant Namlang Zeliang (under 45 kgs), assistant Avisa Suokhrie (under 60 kgs), Kivishe P. Swu (under 55 kgs), Abdul Aziz (under 50 kgs), Amen Ali (under 65 kgs), Joel D. Rai (under 50 kgs), Shobam Singh (under 55 kgs), Paramita Paul (under 60 kgs), Suma Meitei (under 40 kgs), Master David Keneingutuo Sorunuo (under 95 kgs), Master Meyiesielie Albert Sorunuo (under 115 kgs), and Master Ruokuo John Sorunuo (under 65 kgs).

  • The silver medallists were Hitali (under 40 kgs), Ikazo Debbarman (under 40 kgs), Simren Singh (under 45 kgs), and Shahim (under 60 kgs).

  • Meanwhile, the association also informed that three of its members received prestigious national awards: Meyiesielie Albert Sorunuo (Best National Kung Fu Technical Award), David Keneingutuo Sorunuo (Best Honour Award), and Ruokuo John Sorunuo (Best Physical Trainer Award).

  • The All Nagaland Shaolin Kung-Fu Association dedicated this achievement to the people of Nagaland and India and stated that it looks forward to continued success in the world of martial arts.
