Dimapur, Oct. 22 (EMN): Kughaho Kiho won the 10th Sumi Chess Championship trophy in the open category, organised by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland, at Tourist Lodge in Dimapur on Saturday.
In the final round, Kughaho Kiho checkmated Toyivi Yeptho, the forerunner, and Itokhu Sumi defeated Vikiye Sheqi. The most crucial point arrived when both Kiho and Sumi scored 6.5 in the final but eventually, Kughaho Kiho emerged as champion by a progressive point. The first and second runners- up were Itokhu Sumi and Toikhu Awomi in the open category. Tohuto Yeptho,Toyivi Yeptho and Akaho Achumi received the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
In the U-14 category, Hukato Jakhalu emerged as champion while Jesse Chishi and Iloito Jakhalu won first and second runners up awards. All the top three winners from both categories received cash prizes along with trophy and certificate.
The Sumi Chess Association Nagaland also had an emergency general meeting after the championship pertaining to its silver jubilee celebration in 2025, an update stated.
In the meeting, the house unanimously elected Dr. Inaje Phuleshe as jubilee planning board convenor along with 14 others.
