Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) has reiterated the February 7, 2017, resolution passed by all the tribal apex bodies endorsing the JCC/NTAC to spearhead the people’s movement on the urban local bodies (ULB) till the legitimate demands of the Nagas people are fulfilled.
This was decided during a consultative meeting of the JCC along with the apex tribal hohos, civil societies/ organisations held on March 25 to discuss on the purported resolution adopted by the government of Nagaland on March 9, 2022, an update from JCC stated.
The house also maintained that the resolution signed on March 9 to conduct ULB election appeared to be unsatisfactory and inconclusive as a consensus opinion of all the stakeholders were not taken into confidence. In this regard, it was unanimously decided to submit a memorandum to the government of Nagaland to re-consider the resolution in consultation with the tribal apex bodies in order to arrive at an acceptable and logical conclusion.
JCC further resolved to continue pursuing and urged the state government to declare the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) report on the January 31, 2017, firing incident resulting to the killing of two innocent people at Dimapur and the report of the cabinet sub-committee constituted in 2017 to review/ amend the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001.
Meanwhile, the house also decided to re-structure the JCC officials with inclusion of president/ secretary of the tribal apex organisations as co-convenors. A total of 16 organisations participated in the consultative meeting.
