- DIMAPUR — A
state-level launch programme of Watershed Yatra was held at the Directorate of
Land Resources in Kohima on Wednesday with G Ikuto Zhimomi, advisor of Land
Resources, as the guest of honour.
- The event was presided over by Kevekha Kevin Zehol, chairman
of state level nodal agency (SLNA) and commissioner and secretary of Land
Resources.
- Speaking at the programme, Zhimomi underlined the need for
collaborative efforts to address the challenges of water scarcity and land
degradation. He reiterated the government's commitment to supporting
community-based watershed management projects and empowering rural communities.
- He further stressed that mass outreach programme would help
to ensure the sustainable use of land and water resources for future
generations, stated a DIPR report.
- Delivering the keynote address, Albert Ngullie, CEO of SLNA
and director of Land Resources, highlighted the importance of the Watershed
Yatra in the context of the state's unique ecological landscape. He encouraged
every citizen to create awareness at both an individual and community-level for
sustainable utilisation and management of natural resources.
- Key highlight of the event was the felicitation to
progressive farmers who have made significant contributions to water
conservation and sustainable agriculture.
- It was followed by experience-sharing session by Kekhrielezo
Zuyie, proprietor of KK Wood Touch Furniture and a beneficiary of the Pradhan
Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana- Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC 2.0).
- Short speeches were delivered by Pelenuo, founder and
managing director of ZubZub India, and Ruopfuzhanuo Whiso, fourth runner-up of
Miss Universe India 2024, who emphasised the importance of community participation
and youth engagement in water conservation efforts and in restoring degraded
land across Nagaland.
- The programme began with a welcome address delivered by the
chairperson, followed by an invocation prayer said by Rev. Dr. Kevichalie
Metha, pastor of Peraciezie Baptist Church.
