Kohima, Nov. 26 (EMN): President of Chakhesang Youth Organisation Kohima (CYOK), Vevoyi WD Vadeo, on Saturday underlined the need for unity and investment on youth for a society to progress in securing a future for the generation.
He stated this during the Secheku Range Sports’ Association (SRSA) and Centre Chakhesang Games and Sports’ Association (CCSA) friendly Sports Meet held in Zhavame village under Phek district on the theme "Unity through sports." He has termed the occasion as a day for all good thoughts, beautiful aspirations and show of never before spirit of oneness, unity, togetherness and a common voice for the development of the area.
"It is such a fantastic gathering that so many youth leaders have turned up for this sports meet which has been truly branded as a show of unity to make the voice of the youth heard and our mind set is accepted to secure our future and generations to come," said Vadeo.
The youth leader asserted that with the FIFA world cup underway, nothing could have been better timed than the Saturday's event and added that sport is one of the few spaces where people can learn about different cultures in a spirit of trust and friendship.
He stated that there are millions of athletes who have turned millionaires by engaging in the sports that was once considered hobbies. He added that sports can provide the youth a way of finding for themselves in this world where white-collar jobs have become scarce and manual jobs are being constantly replaced by technology.
Vadeo said, "What unite us here in this moment is so much greater than what divide us. Let us find beauty in our differences. Let us try to make this beautiful moment last longer than just today." He also called upon the youth leaders to organise such programmes even in days to come adding that promoting youth is the most imperative challenge of the society particularly for the people in Centre Chakhesang and Secheku Range where half or more of the population are youth.
He shared his believe that the youth are champions for development and change in communities and societies and not on the notion of youth as 'future leaders.' He said the society must ensure full participation and inclusion of young people for a sustainable society.
"We will not attain and create a sustainable society, unless we invest in youth and partner with young people. Investing in young people's education, health and employment etc. will ensure better prospects for their own lives and for our areas’ development," Vadeo added. On the contrary, he opined that the society would further be entrenched poverty and ignorance for generations to come if the society fails to invest in the youth.
Vadeo also called upon the youth of the area to act as role model for others in the society and make society a better place to live in with unity as weapon and strength to accomplish any goal for the development of the area.
President of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Vezhoduyi Nakro, also spoke on the occasion and short speech was also delivered by Vemudo D Vadeo, president of CCGSA.
Exhibition matches in football for men and volleyball for women were played on the occasion.
