Nagaland introduces ‘Prison Staff Attendance’ to ensure staff perform their duties

Kohima, Sep. 19 (EMN): Nagaland Prisons department went digital on Monday by introducing a mobile application called ‘Prison Staff Attendance’ to record the presence of its staff using QR (quick response) code, a two-dimensional barcode that contains information about items or persons to which it is attached and which can be read by a digital device.

Advisor of Prisons, Printing and Stationery, H Haiying launched the app at the District Jail Kohima. It was initiated by the Prisons department in collaboration with Excellogics Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Speaking at the event, Haiying expressed hope that the technology will help maintain the attendance of staff accurately, which in turn will help the administration of the prisons.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the prison staff and encouraging them to work hard with passion and sincerity.

Director General of Prisons, Rupin Sharma said that with the mechanism in place, the prison staff "cannot bluff the system”, as it will ensure the attendance of all employees. The prison in-charge will be able to monitor the staff’s attendance and also make attendance reports based on the system.

‘The same mechanism will be implemented in all the jails in Nagaland. Training on the operation of the application has been conducted,’ he said, adding that for staff without smartphones, phones have been given to officials, through whom their attendance can be marked.

He said the mechanism is something new not only for the Prison department but also for all departments. He also informed that a new application for prison patrolling is in the pipeline.

Business Development Manager of Excellogics Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Zhalhouvi-e Naga, informed that the prison staff application and the admin portal aim at providing a comprehensive attendance management system that can make the processes hassle-free and provide an integrated system for monitoring and tracking the employees’ attendance.

She said that the app's benefits include providing accurate time records, reliable and secure attendance system and replacing paper-based timesheets, and that it comes with encrypted QR technology and a GPS-mapping system.

The features of Prison Staff Attendance app, which is available for download on Google Play, include QR locations, unique device ID, self-photo and offline mode.
